And it's 'Mikael' again ...

Liya and I talked over the name one more time and settled, again, on Mikael. I sort of wanted to put a post in the blog to survey my (very limited) readership but then I thought I probably know what everyone is going to say.

So, if Mikael is really final, the question becomes how it will get pronounced. I generally say "Mee Kah El," with three syllables. I suppose that "Mee Kale" is also possible.

Mikael and Google

Some important searchs:

Google for Mikael

The first entry is for Mikael Håfström on IMDB. I guess maybe Mikael is the Swedish spelling of the name.

Then there's an ad for a car wash.

The third entry is Mikael Sehul a ruler of Tigray, a province of Ethiopia.

And it's final: Mikael!

My sister write:

i think Mikael is best...i like Mihael but very hard to translate that to english and since we both know what that experience is like I'd say go for Mikael. i like that...
So, that seems to clinch it for me and Liya. He will be Mikael Donchin in English and מיכאל דונחין in Hebrew.
I know you were all on the edge of your seats.

Spelling our son's name

In hebrew, it's easy. The name is מיכאל (Name, Archangel). However, in English we have some problems. We don't want 'Michael' for whatever reason. I've been using Mihael on this blog, which I like, but the reactions have not been good. My friend Yael Perez suggest the French version Mikael, which is also nice. There is also the option of Micha'el with an apostrophe. Stay tuned for further developments
