Bike riding

We have not been keeping up with the blog and a lot of stuff has piled up. I'm going to post a few things that are lying around, but it's a little haphazard.

In any case, although he doesn't realize it entirely, Mikael is now completely capable of riding a bike. It only took him about three days, I guess in part because of all the time he spent on the wooden bikes. In any case, here are the videos to prove it:

Kibbutz Yiron

Mikael and I went North for four days in Kibbutz Yiron. Maya and Ido live there with the two cousins, Shaked and Yotam. Aba Opher stayed in Shlomo Hamelech in order to be a diligent scientist (Hi Opher!)

It's not easy to transport three happy and energetic little things so that they all arrive at the same destination at the same time. Therefore, we put all of them on the bike. Mikael looks a little stunned, but he enjoyed the new experience of sitting in the back seat and riding in a threesome. Shaked and Yotam enjoy having a visitor, and Maya, well, it may be a little hard to see from this angle, but she's got a huge 9th month belly to carry around.

Kids! Do not try this at home!

There are a few pieces of advice that you find quite consistently on all the internet sites that talk about kids and bike safety:

1) Don't start before the child is one year old

2) Always use a child seat. Never have a kid on a bike in a backpack.

3) Always use a helmet.

We're planning to be good about this, really. We just bought a new (used) bike and they didn't have bike seats in the store and we're going to get bike seats and a helmet on Sunday. In the meantime, though, we wanted to go to our first swim class this morning and we decided to try Mikael out on the Brompton with the Ergo sling. It was great actually. We even got support from Maarten Frens who lives in Holland where they know everything about bicycles.

Anyway, this totally non-educational video is too much fun to waste.
