Flatwood park

This was the first visit to Flatwood park for all of us. It's less impressive than Lettuce Lake, but could be great fun if you have rollerblades or bikes. Anyway, we took a long walk on the path and Mikael played in the grass for a bit.

Squirrels

On our way out of lettuce lake, Liya and Mikael found some squirrels and stopped to watch them. Generally, you can guess where the squirrel is by following their gaze. Sometimes, though, Mikael's attention wandered and Liya was the only one looking at the squirrel.

Lettuce Lake Park

Lettuce Lake Park is a small beautiful piece of wild swampland very near my parent's house. We visit it every time we come to Tampa and love it's mixture of civilized boardwalk and quiet natural wilderness. We've seen crocodiles and all sorts of birds and turtles and plenty of other beautiful wildlife here. This was Mikael's first visit to Lettuce Lake (not counting visits while in the womb) and he brought his quiet thoughtful moods and his wild exuberant moods with him.

Interacting with Savta

Unnamed critics have complained that we don't have enough interaction with the grandparents in these Tampa photos. Here are two great pictures of Savta Rina having fun with Mikael.

tH

Here is yet another episode from the Adventure of the Sweet Tomato. This time it is the Noodle again that our Hero confronts with determination and aplomb....

Exploring walkers at Babies R'Us

Mikael spent a glorious few hours at Babies R Us with parents and saba. Particularly nice were the great walkers....

Saba Emi

Congratulations to our new contributor. Saba Emi brings his own particular eye and take on things.

At Sweet Tomatoes (after the Opera)

We dined at Sweet Tomatoes following Mikael's first successfully peacefully slept through the first act of the Met's "Daughter of the Regiment"....During the intermission he took Opher and Liya to the gaming area of Citrus Park Mall and following a thorough study of Borders' Kids Corner we came to ponder noodles at Sweet Tomatoes. (Camera: Saba Emanuel, 2nd Gaffer, Opher Donchin)

A portrait gallery of Mikael in various Tampa locations. It is clear the man is giving the world careful consideration and it seems to, generally, agree with him.

A very nice day in Florida...Sun is shining...light breeze....Mikael is enjoying the grandparents pool. His parents, as you can see, are also using this excuse to get wet.....

Bookstore

We tried to buy the entire Border's outlet. We did. Still, despite our best efforts there were still many more books left in the store than there were in the car.

Some of our favorites:

Good Dog, Carl
Hop on Pop
That's not my penguin
Are you my mother?

And many, many more!

Merry Go Round

It turns out that the Metropolitan has a new program where it broadcasts live performances of operas to movie theatres and people all over the country can go to see the opera together. The whole family went to The Daughter of the Regiment, but Mikael was napping through the first hour or so. When it was time for him to wake up (we're trying to help his jet lag), Opher and Mikael and Liya went to explore the mall where the movie theater was located. We found a big Merry Go Round, and tried it out. Mikael dealt with it with his usual seriousness, but once it started moving and going up and down, he thought it was pretty fun. We all had visions of that excellent scene from Merry Poppins which, it turns out, you just can't find on You Tube.

Frying pan

My mom was getting ready to make some eggs for lunch and asked me to get her a frying pan from the cupboard. When I did, Mikael really really really wanted one for himself, so I got another one out and gave it to him. He proceeded to put it on the floor and climb into it and grin like a banshee. He also enjoyed it when I spun the frying pan around on the floor with him on it.

Snack

Time for a short snack by the pool between dips.

The pool

Mikael is spending a lot of time in my parent's pool. He's got mixed feelings about it, as you can see in the pictures. He can have fun in the water, but it can also be really annoying or unpleasant or frightening or something. Liya and I are being patient but determined. Liya had us buy an inflatable baby floater thingie with an attached sunshade, and Mikael does really like that.
