A collection of Mikael sentences

Opher translates:
Here we are at the age where everything that comes out of his mouth is a pearl. Honestly, though, it is truly sweet. Here are a few of my favorites:

Mommy Liya and Mikael are biking by the grocery store. M: I want to buy something at the store!

Mommy Liya and Mikael are on the way back from the park. M: There's the moon! Mommy Liya: That's right!!!! Do you see what shape it has? It is a half circle? M: No! It's a square.

And, on a different night in the same situation: M: Mommy, tell me about the moon.

Netta added in a comment that on Friday when he saw Dror setting up a grill (but not yet having laid out the steaks), he said: Dor, no meat!

Shavuoth in Kibbutz Yiron

Shavuot in kibbutz Yiron. We have so many pictures and movies that we've been afraid to get started for the last two weeks, and as a result we haven't been posting to the blog.

Over the Shavuot holiday weekend, the Kallir family congregated in Kibbutz Yiron. The children spent a lot of time together at all the possible attractions that the Kibbutz offers: the pool, the tractors, and more.

When Mikael and Yotam got up from their afternoon nap, the shared some quality bottle time, and afterwards got together on the stairs -- Shaked, Yotam, and Mikael -- for an afternoon popsicle.

Afterwards, the played in the sandbox that Maya and Ido built in the yard. I loved seeing how they can play with so much focused quiet.

Birthday marathon, stage 2: funny hats

A birthday party just isn't the same without the funny hats!

Birthday marathon stage 2: Mevasseret

Mikael's birthday this year fell on the festival of Shavuot so we had a long weekend to really enjoy it. After the coffee shop, we all had a nap and then headed out to Mevasseret for a holiday dinner plus birthday party. We're getting worse and worse about pulling out the camera, but Yoel did us the favor of getting the birthday moments down on film.

Cousin Netta, who made the lovely cake, helped Mikael light the candles.

First we had to put the candles on the cake

Then Mikael's favorite part: the actual lighting of the match and then using it to light the candles.

We even  had birthday sparklers!

Mikael got two gifts from the Donchins. One was a great book. The other was a wooden train set that I had played with as a small child and then Dror had played with after that and then Yael and Netta.  It's still in quite excellent shape and brings me a smile because I remember it quite vividly.

Tamar, Yael's daughter was also at the birthday and enjoyed the cake. Here she is with her Savta Milka.

Birthday Marathon: Stage 1, Coffee Shop

Mikael (and his parents) have reached the end of a 9 day, 5 stage birthday party Marathon, which took us to the farthest reaches of this (not so) little country and gave Mikael a birthday experience that he would not forget (at least not for a week or so).

Here are pictures and a video from the very beginning of the birthday celebrations. On the day of Mikael's birthday, Liya and Mikael and I met Shiri and also Gabriel and Lia at Cafe Joe for some celebratory morning ice cream.

This is the sort of behavior which I'd like to say that we only allow on special birthdays, but sadly the fact is that we are just overly permissive parents. Anyway, that's Shiri on the far left, Gabriel sitting in a chair brushing her hair, and Lia on the table with Mikael.

Here is the ice cream!

Evening at the 'camp' site

This is the last set from the camping. It chronicles our evening, starting with a Friday night dinner complete with blessing for the pita bread and lots of yummy meat. After the kids were done eating, we kept them entertained by touring the area in the cart. Once the grownups were done eating as well, it was off to the showers and then bed. Yael fell asleep immediately, Mikael took two more minutes, and Lia had a blast running around and around the mud house and then hanging out with the grownups. Eventually, she did go to sleep and, because I'd accidentally made caffeinated instead of decaffeinated coffee, the grownups stayed up chatting until 1:30.
