this is when it got realy cold
Last week it got really cold. The canals froze and it snowed. The kids and us all started putting on extra layers, thicker coats, hats, gloves and boots (well no gloves for Danielle; she won't have them).
We bought a sled, like all the Dutch kids have (the man at the store said it was a good one and would last for our grandchildren, but I wasn't sure we were really planning to stay in The Netherlands that long).
When the canals freeze, all the Dutch bring out their skates. Frozen children scamper merrily along the canals. The babies and the toddlers were pretty unhappy, though. We could almost always hear some small voice or another crying away because a little kid had decided that it really was too cold and that his parents were going too far. Danielle was pretty unhappy, too, until we put her into the snug sleeping bag in the baby stroller.
