A fresh story from this morning: the unphotographed picture

Yesterday, the Mevasseret Donchin's came for dinner (we'll have pictures 'real soon'). They left behind a whole baking pan of very excellent chicken that Milka made. Now, Opher has no god when it comes to Chicken. For breakfast, while me and Mikael are eating whole wheat bran flakes with organic goat milk, Opher comes and sits next to us with a chicken drumstick dripping juices and quite odorful. Mikael, of course, immediately pushed the bran flakes away and asked for chicken like Daddy's. Since we do our best to go with the flow, we gave Mikael his own drum stick, dripping juices and odorful. Father and son sit at breakfast eating chicken with their hands, until Mikael suddenly remembers that he needs to go to the toilet. That means we need to run to the potty within 30 seconds, and so you can imagine the picture, that I didn't take. Mikael sitting on his little potty pot, happy as a clam, with his pants around his knees and a tasty, dripping drumstick in his hands.

Evening at the 'camp' site

This is the last set from the camping. It chronicles our evening, starting with a Friday night dinner complete with blessing for the pita bread and lots of yummy meat. After the kids were done eating, we kept them entertained by touring the area in the cart. Once the grownups were done eating as well, it was off to the showers and then bed. Yael fell asleep immediately, Mikael took two more minutes, and Lia had a blast running around and around the mud house and then hanging out with the grownups. Eventually, she did go to sleep and, because I'd accidentally made caffeinated instead of decaffeinated coffee, the grownups stayed up chatting until 1:30.

Organic vegetables

Organic vegetables arrive weekly on Monday night. It's always a big party as we rush to finish up the leftovers from last week and get excited about what we'll be eating over the next week.

Green peas are very popular right now, not just with Mikael but with the whole family. Mikael pulled these out of the vegetable box and toddled off to the bed room where he could eat them peacefully without competition from his parents.

The Anba Winery

As part of our exploration of the kibbutz nature we found ourselves smack in the middle of a winery harvest. Maya and Ido have created a small, quality winery they call the Anba winery. They've been making specialty wines for 4 years now and every year they increase their product. They are working with 2 tons of cabernet grapes this year. They're super serious. A bottle sells for 50 NIS this year, and anyone interested can contact them through us. Mikael and I went on a bike ride just as the grapes arrived: purple, small, and full of promise. So we stopped to help as Ido started to pass the bunches of grapes through a machine that seperates them from the skeleton (is that what the stems are called in English?) The grapes are now stored in huge vats in the basement of the kibbutz. Ido just went to add yeast in order to start the fermentation.

Mikael had a blast! He ate grapes in worrisome quantities and stuck fingers into the grape bunches and touched and tasted to his hearts content.

More photos from the party

Caro uploaded her photos to Facebook (I'm getting more and more impressed with Facebook, actually). I'm going to copy some of the ones that give a sense for the party and ones that actually include my son into here. Anyone who wants to keep track of my son's nursery school can join the אינדיגו group on Facebook and receive ongoing updates and see all the pictures.

Succesful night weaning

It may be a little early to crown this as a success, but Mikael is being night-weaned. Liya and I have changed places on the bed, and when he wakes up in the middle of the night, I'm the one who has to go to him (if we're still up) or wake up and comfort him (sometimes with a little bit of a nudge from Liya). The truth is that it's been much smoother than we thought it would be, and the nights have been fairly quiet. During the day, he's much more focused on Liya and a little more dependent than he was, but even that seems like it will work itself out in short order.

A spring bounty

The children at the school where we practice Aikido brought Miles some apricots as a spring bounty gift right before the holiday of Shavuot. It was really sweet. Mikael thought so, too. He found them and joyfully took a bite or two out of each and every one and then wiped the mats with what was left. Definitely cute behavior when you are around 1 years old that may not be so cute later on. Also, probably cuter for the parents than everyone else, but I'm not sure. Which reminds me that Liya and I started taking a 'boundaries' workshop so we can learn how to better set 'boundaries' (what are those?) for our child when the time comes.

In any case, Adi memorialized the slaughter of the spring bounty with her cell phone camera. Those are great things to have, aren't they?

Eating a tomato

And other thigns. Maybe a carrot and some red pepper? I like the way his hand is just jammed into the tomato itself, though. That's very characteristic.

Eating passion fruit

Well, not quite eating it. He did a better job with the tomato.

Trip north: Cahal

Like Ayala already posted, Anat had bunches of people over for a great lunch. We missed a lot of great pictures, but we did pull the camera out when Mike started holding Mikael. Liya also got a lovely shot of all the cameras focused on the little kids that were there.

Liya's birthday

This Thursday I came back from work early and me and Liya walked down to Rothschild to meet Shiri. From there we all went to a nice little coffe shop on a quiet street nearby (can't remember it's name) and celebrated Liya's birthday.

Breakfast

I think it was Ola who took these pictures of me working on breakfast with Mikael. I'm not sure what he's eating. It may be pureed cucumber and tomato in 'white cheese.' Amazingly, this was one of my more succesful eating sessions.
