Maya and Shaked and Yotam come to visit

Ido and Hila are off to Turkey for the weekend. It's a hard life. Savta Hava and Saba Rami are down in Rehovot to look after their children. Usually, once a month, Ido Meirav and Maya leave their children with Savta Hava and Saba Rami and head down to hte wine course which is not far from Rehovot. Except this weekend, Ido is in France on business. He also has a very hard life. So, Maya took the kids down to Rehovot to stay with Savta Hava and Saba Rami and Yali and Noa and Maayan-Shahar is also there. It's going to be quite the zoo, but we won't have any pictures. On the way she stopped off with us and spent the night. Here are pictures from the morning.

Maayan-Shahar's toy

As you can see, Mikael is developing his intuition about basic mechanical and physical principles using the toy.

Still more pajamas

After Mikael and I give Liya a workout with all of our fun routines, we like to let her rest by adopting some engaging and simple poses.

More pajamas

Here are the new pajamas again, this time Mikael and I are demonstrating the maneuver Liya calls the 'neck snap' routine.

New pajamas

A few weeks ago, I was assaulted by a sale on baby clothes at the local mall. I quickly surrendered my wallet and was able to escape without suffering any physical harm. As a result of this unpleasant encounter, the baby clothes store compensated me with some old clothes they had hanging around and wanted to get rid of. I actually thought the clothes weren't so bad. We now have 3 new sets of pajamas of a size that might last us until Mikael turns 2. Also more warm clothes and some nice socks and some furry shoes that we plan to start using around the same time he grows out of the pajamas. The day we got all these clothes, Ola was around and took the camera and took some pictures of me and Mikael and the new pajamas.

There were lots of pictures, but I won't bore you with all of them. Here's a series demonstrating what Liya calls my 'arm dislocation routine.'

Watching TV

We don't really have a tv in the house or any time to watch it, but Mike likes the big screen just as much as any child (or adult or human being). He can be completely fascinated by the yellow histogram bars that show up when we play music for him on the Window's Media Player visualizations. In fact, he even finds the screen itself pretty interesting when it's totally static. So, since Mikael's been feeling a bit under the weather the past few days -- he was sick a couple of days ago and now his teeth are really bothering him -- we decided to watch a few minutes of television with him. We finally brought out the Baby Mozart DVD that Saba Emmi gave him when he was just born. There are definitely parts he likes better and parts that are less interesting, but it does keep him calm when we are trying to feed him the paracetamol.

Maayan-Shahar's toy

Two more with the very cool wooden cart or truck.

Yalli and Noa in their home

We took advantage of the car and the proximity to visit Yalli and Noa (and their parents, too) in Rehovot and were rewarded with a very nice evening and some great dinner (and excellent wine). The last picture is in here because otherwise Noa and Hila wouldn't have made it into the post at all and that seemed unfair.

Tamar Minsk

Of course, while we were at Yael and Yiftah's house we also saw Tamar. She is very cute and very very small. I got to see basically all of her various activities: sleeping, eating, shitting, bathing, and crying. Yael and Yiftah are still working out the bathing thing -- it feels like a very long time ago that we gave Mikael his first bath -- and even the feeding thing is much more complicated for them than it was for us. One thing which is nice is that they take turns feeding. First Yael feeds her the 'old fashioned' way; then Yiftah feeds her from a bottle with mother's milk that has a little cornflour added. The added bulk helps slow down the food so she can digest it more easily.

In Yael and Yiftah's kitchen

We finally went to visit Yael and Yiftah and their new baby Tamar. Tamar got home just this week, and I was very eager to see her. Unfortunately, she's still not quite at the stage where she can be in the company of other children. AYis a result, Mikael and I hung out outside for a while until Liya got to say hi, and then Liya and Mikael hung out outside for a while. Actually after a while, they came in and hung out in the kitchen which was far enough away from Tamar. Yiftah brought us an excellent excellent toy electric organ that works on batteries and allowed Mikael to really generate a lot of noise. Yiftah's mother (Tzipi?) came out to play with Mikael, too, and gave him some oranges to play with.

Maayan-Shahar's toy

Maayan-Shahar made a great little toy truck for us after Liya decided that Mikael had too many stuffed animals and not enough 'boy'-type toys. Certainly, Mikael takes a lot of interest in anything mechanical and his favorite toy may be an old headphone switching box. Maayan-Shahar justifiably complained that we had not pictures of her cool toy in the blog yet. So, I've tried to take a few. It's not as easy as you'd think. Here's one. More will follow.

The second picnic

After the hike, we were all ready for another picnic. We were a little tired of taking pictures, though, so there are only a few here. Roni got excited about Mikael's toys and Mikael got excited about Roni's toys.
