Mevasseret: Mommy Liya

Liya says that a naive reader of the blog might think that I do most of the caring for Mikael and that my family is always over to visit and that things I care about are generally over-represented. She's probably right. Here is a token picture of Mikael's mom who also came to Mevasseret and also had a great time with Mikael while we were all there.

Mevasseret: the space alien

On Thursday, Miles had a 2 year birthday party for the Aikido dojo and he brought party favors. Among the party favors were these very weird toys that look (somebody said) sort of like a virus or may be a space alien with lots of tentacles. After testing that even grown men had a very difficult time ripping the tentacles off, we let Mikael play with it. He really thought it was fun. Liya demonstrated that you can get it to stick to the ceiling as shown in the last picture.

Mevasseret: Doda Milka

Milka only really got in on the act after Mikael had been cleaned of all remnants of sweet potato. It's really great to see how much she takes to Mikael and how happy it makes her to be holding him.

Mevasseret: the cousins

Pictures of Netta and Gai and of Yael and Yiftah (looking as tired as any parents of a new born). These few pictures represent a lot of time that everyone spent playing with Mikael.

Mevasseret: Aba Opher

Eventually, Yoel had to go try to clean his clothes off a little bit, and Mikael moved over to me. He kept eating sweet potatoes and spreading them all over everything.

Mevesseret: Dod Yoel

At first, we started dinner with Mikael in the portable crib. However, Yoel took pity on him and brought him to the table. When he started making grabs for Yoel's steak, we looked around for other food to offer him. Eventually, we settled on the baked sweet potato. Mikael actually did very well with it although food did get everywhere (including on dear Dod Yoel).

Roberto after Aikido

There are a lot of people at Aikido who give Mikael a lot of attention, and Roberto is one of them. Here he is hanging out with Mikael after Aikdio practice while Liya and I get our clothes changed and pick up all the toys and stuff.

Back to the high chair

Yet another effort to feed the baby. The high chair placement is not optimal because there are so many cool citrus fruits Mikael can look at instead of his food.

Ola bathes the baby

We've had some fun help with the bath lately. Here is Ola doing her bit for cleanliness.

The new high chair

Our frustration with trying to figure out if we are feeding Mikael correclty led us to try some desperate measures. We bought a high chair. After talking it through and agreeing that a 200 NIS high chair supplied all of our needs, and then checking on line and so on, we somehow ended up buying a chair that cost a little bit more than twice that much. It looks really comfy and Mikael seems pretty happy in it. I'm not sure it's affected his eating much, though.

Blogging for money

Here is an NPR story on blogging which includes a piece on a stay-at-home mom who makes several thousand dollars a month from advertising revenue from her blog about her kids. Anyone think I should go public?

Food follies

We are still not making a lot of progress in the food campaign. Here we see Mikael almost bathing in sweet potato mash. Some of it, apparently, got into his mouth. At least that's what Liya says. I had worse luck this morning with the banana mash I made. Apparently the banana wasn't ripe enough.

The Schooley girls wash Mikael

Both of the Schooley girls were eager to play with Mikael and help take care of him. On Wednesday afternoon I joined them for a walk in Tel Aviv, and both Emily and Alicia really helped carry Mikael. At one point, we put the Ergo (baby carrier) on Alicia and she carried Mikael until he fell asleep riding on her hip. It was very sweet, but we didn't get any pictures. Stupid Opher. On Saturday, Emily was very excited about helping with the bath and she did a very thorough job of applying soap all over Mikael's body. Alicia helped out by taking pictures and then I got a picture of all three children -- or of the two women and the baby -- together.

Schooley family visit

Kathy Mills was one of my best friends in High School. She married Bernal Schooley and they had two daughters, Alicia (with the long straight hair) and Emily (with the dark curly hair). Kathy has the shorter hair and Bernal is the man. Just so we know. In any case, Kathy is a Bahai, and she and her family has come to Israel for a two week pilgrimage to the Bahai world center in Haifa. They were with us all weekend (although we were gone for part of it because of the Aikido seminar). Now they are up at the Bahai center, and they'll be back overnight on their way home.
